Testimonials
A unique alternative for retirement living.

October 2007

We are very appreciative of the wonderful living environment that Abbeyfield has provided to Sheila for the past ten months. We know that she really enjoyed the camaraderie of the tenant group, the delicious meals, and the care and support of all of the staff. The move to Abbeyfield was a very positive experience for her and she thrived emotionally and physically while living there. The caring efforts of all who assisted her are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Maureen Corbett

To whom it may concern

As an octogenarian (high end) I am not often surprised by events or situations, but I was really amazed to discover how many seniors here do not know about the Abbeyfield House Society.  Having lived in England for a year, I knew there were hundreds of Abbeyfield houses, which are highly regarded as retirement residences.  I myself didn’t know that we are fortunate in having one in Ottawa.  I heard of it from a friend, and have lived in it for two years. I am very content and my family members are relieved of worry.

I would like to bring Abbeyfield to the attention of other seniors who might be contemplating such a move.  The Abbeyfield concept is entirely different from other such residences. First (and I consider this foremost) the houses are small, usually accommodating no more than ten residents.   They are non-profit operations with each having a board of directors on whom the main responsibility falls, and who are highly visible to the residents. Abbeyfield houses provide a truly homelike and comfortable atmosphere, as well as all meals. (I love the freedom from shopping and cooking.)  The meals are of high quality, and take into account the personal preferences of residents.  The modest cost compares most favourably with larger, more impersonal residences.

Come and visit us at Abbeyfield House Parkdale, and you will never again say: “Abbeyfield? What’s that?”

                                                                        Yours sincerely

Resident "I moved to Abbeyfield over two years ago to enjoy the companionship of other residents. I'm totally mobile and love to be able to work in the garden. The location of the house makes it easy to walk to the library, shops, restaurants, and the theatre.  For trips further afield, such as to the Ottawa River Parkway and the Experimental Farm, I can easily drive my car. Abbeyfield House Parkdale is a grand place to live!"
